Mikey's Cancelled Stand-Up Special

Mikey's Cancelled Stand-Up Special, 2022-2024

Digitally designed with Procreate on iPad.

From 2022 to 2024, Mikey devoted two years to animating a stand-up comedy special. Animation is a notoriously grueling process, and after two years of painstaking work, he’d managed to produce a whopping 30 minutes of comedy. With another 30 minutes to go, he hit that familiar creative roadblock known as art block—the place where ambitious projects go to die, collecting digital dust alongside every other unfinished masterpiece.

Big Mike's Tiramisu Cookies

Big Mike's Tiramisu Cookies, 2025

Digitally designed with Procreate on iPad.

Mikey spends Christmas baking millions of cookies for everyone else, leaving him too exhausted to enjoy a single one—or even watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Naturally, he becomes the Grinch. His solution? Write a cookbook! Coming soon, before he steals Christmas!!!

Graffiti Name Lesson

Graffiti Name Lesson, 2025

Acrylic Paint & Sharpie on paper.

Mikey became a substitute teacher and found himself covering for his former art teacher, Mrs. Baker, for three weeks—in the very classroom where he’d once been a student. Fifteen years later, he was teaching a lesson he’d loved learning himself. Naturally, Theo became the muse, obviously.

Theo Portrait

Theo Portrait, 2025

Pencil on paper.

Substitute teaching quickly became a full-circle reunion, with former teachers Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Fuller tagging Mikey in whenever they needed coverage—especially in the art room. Both played a major role in reigniting his love for traditional, hands-on art after years of digital work. Apparently, the student had become the teacher, but Theo was still the muse. Some things never change.

Theo In Technicolor

Here we have Theo again, but in color! A father's love for his son knows no bounds!

First Ever Sculpture

First Ever Sculpture, 2025

Ceramic clay.

In the summer of 2025, Mikey’s former teachers and students encouraged him to turn his knack for teaching into an actual career. So, back to college he went! For his first ceramics assignment, he was supposed to make a flowerpot. Naturally, Mikey had never touched clay before and decided a plain pot was beneath him. Instead, he sculpted Theo’s head, complete with flowers growing out of his ears...

Second Sculpture

We were instructed to make a lantern... Mikey chose the Mystery Machine. His mind? Genius or crazy--perhaps both?

Power Rangers Water Bottle

This was just for fun to show his love for the power rangers, and to also challenge himself too.

Toy Story Water Bottle

Toy Story Water Bottle, 2026

Posca Paint Markers on water bottle.

Since the Power Ranger one turned out great, he figured why not a Toy Story one, too?

PAWS

PAWS, 2026

Marker, ink, and acrylic paint on canvas.

Mikey had just moved into his new apartment and really wanted to keep up with his Jaws themed bathroom. What better way than to incorporate his baby boy than into the poster itself? PAWS 2, starring a pesky little beagle, coming soon!

Johnny's Portrait

Johnny's Portrait, 2026

Digitally designed with Procreate for iPad.

When the community lost Johnny, a young warrior who had battled for years, Mikey was called in to cover his teacher’s class so they could attend the funeral. He spent the weekend digitally painting a watercolor portrait in Johnny’s honor and created dedicated coloring pages for his classmates as they mourned the loss of their friend. May Johnny rest in peace.

Mr. Goodwin: Comic #1

Mr. Goodwin: Comic #1, 2026

Marker on canvas.

Mikey created this piece using words of encouragement from his students, hoping to hang it above his desk in his future classroom. The students believed in him—even if the district that failed him as a student couldn’t quite manage to do better by him as a teacher. So, Mikey walked the plank on a sinking ship, middle fingers raised. Turns out, the only lesson the district ever taught was how to fail its own people.

Tony's Portrait

Tony's Portrait, 2026

Digitally designed with Procreate on iPad.

Just a month after their last interaction, Mikey lost his former teacher, Tony Dolce. Even after Mikey left the district, Tony continued championing his dream of becoming a teacher. Having seen how much Johnny’s portrait meant to Tony, Mikey knew he had to honor him with one of his own. Some teachers leave a mark that lasts a lifetime. Tony was one of them. May he rest in peace.

TWIN!

TWIN!, 2026

Digitally designed with Procreate on iPad.

Mr. Goodwin doesn’t play favorites, but some students stick to teachers like Velcro—and this one was his first. Theo makes a great muse, but giving the spotlight to the kids who deserve it? That’s even better. Without the encouragement of his Velcro kids, Mikey might never have built this website to showcase his artwork. After a lifetime of trying to find his own place in the spotlight, Mikey discovered something he never expected: he could make that spotlight mean more by shining it on others. Turns out, teachers aren’t the only ones shaping their students. Sometimes, the students help their teacher see what he was meant to do all along.

Theo Jeffrey

Theo Jeffrey, 2021

After returning from LA, Mikey gave birth to his son, Theo Jeffrey. Unfortunately, Theo inherited his father’s signature high-pitched, relentless whining. The apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree—because when either of them hears the word “no,” the tantrum that follows is proof that nature really does have a cruel sense of humor.

Hollywood Ringin'

Hollywood Ringin', 2021

Mikey may have returned to Jamestown and left Hollywood behind, but Hollywood wasn’t quite done with him. Every so often, an opportunity came calling—because apparently, even Tinseltown has a hard time letting go of its favorite train wreck.

Charmander to Charizard Too Quick

Charmander to Charizard Too Quick, 2021

At just five months old, Theo was growing faster than Mikey’s sanity could keep up. Naturally, he made sure Big Papa handled every single growing pain. Mikey’s solution? Espresso martinis—the new hydration of choice for a sleep-deprived dog dad running on caffeine and questionable life choices.

Motorcykey-Mikey

Motorcykey-Mikey, 2022

Mikey finally learned to ride a motorcycle and bought a Honda Rebel, naming her Princess Leia, obviously. Some men buy sports cars when their lives fall apart. Mikey was too broke for that, so he bought a motorcycle to stick it to Big Oil at the gas pump. A midlife crisis? No, a financially responsible breakdown.

Hollywood Callback

Hollywood Callback, 2022

Hollywood came calling again, dangling opportunities in front of Mikey like a carrot on a stick. But after years of chasing the dream, he’d learned the difference between a promising email and an actual paycheck. He stayed in Jamestown, declaring he’d only return to the land of the artificial if something concrete came along.

What's DJ Khaled Say?

What's DJ Khaled Say?, 2023

Hollywood came calling with opportunities Mikey couldn’t ignore, so he packed up and returned to California. Another feature article put his face out there, proving that while his career might have needed a GPS, his headshot was certainly getting around.

ANOTHA ONE

ANOTHA ONE, 2023

Just in time for his 30th birthday, Mikey was back in LA, auditioning and daring to believe that the fourth time might actually be the charm. After years of false starts, financial ruin, and enough character development to fill a Netflix series, Hollywood was finally starting to look less like a pipe dream and more like a possibility.

Nostalgic

Nostalgic, 2024

Déjà vu hit hard. LA was once again draining Mikey’s bank account faster than he could replenish it, and finding a full-time job proved about as likely as winning the lottery. Slowly but surely, his savings dwindled. Apparently, the fourth time might be the charm—but bills still wanted its money.

Hollywood, It's Not Me... It's You.

Hollywood, It's Not Me... It's You., 2024

Mikey called it quits after his shortest Hollywood stint yet: eight months. He hated the traffic, the heat, the cost of living, and the false promises from people who dangled his dreams in front of him but never delivered. LA was taking more than his money—it was taking his sanity. For the fourth time, Mikey left Hollywood. Only this time, the dream wasn’t worth the price of admission.

Jamestown Clown

Jamestown Clown, 2024-2025

Mikey returned to Jamestown for what he swore would be the last time, with no clue what the hell came next. He went MIA to figure out his life, eventually landing a “manager” position at a local bar. Unfortunately, homophobia was running that sh*tshow, and Mikey wasn’t about to swallow his pride just to make bigots comfortable. He’d rather quit than act like their bullsh*t didn’t offend him.

The Dawn of Mr. Goodwin

The Dawn of Mr. Goodwin, 2025

Mikey pictured here covering his former art teacher, Mrs. Baker, for three weeks. He loved every minute of it, and judging by the students’ reactions, the feeling was mutual. Turns out, the classroom felt just as natural from the other side of the desk.

Mikey Ross

Mikey Ross, 2025

When Mikey subbed for Mrs. Baker’s art class on Halloween, he showed up as Bob Ross. The kids were stunned to discover that beneath the wig and beard was none other than Mr. Goodwin. Turns out, happy little accidents happen when your substitute teacher has a flair for the dramatic.

Good-Twin!

Good-Twin!, 2026

It was "Dress Like A Student" day for teacher spirit week. Mr. Goodwin got the permission slip from his Velcro student's mom and had the entire school in shambles. Mr. Goodwin? More like Mr. Commits-to-the-bit.

An Uplifting Note

An Uplifting Note, 2026

Mikey has kept countless reminders of his students: handwritten notes, drawings, and a fridge plastered with cartoon portraits they’ve made of him. Though he’s no longer in their classroom, he’s made sure his students know they can still turn to him for guidance whenever they need it.
